Flybondi

Argentine budget airline Flybondi has introduced a new policy allowing customers to resell their tickets, as stated on its official website.

This move positions Flybondi as the first in the airline industry to permit ticket reselling, a development highlighted by Aviacion al Dia, a Spanish-language aviation news outlet.

Flybondi, headquartered in Buenos Aires, had previously made headlines in March by partnering with TravelX, a company specializing in NFT ticketing, to issue airline tickets as nonfungible tokens (NFTs). Termed the Ticket 3.0 platform, this initiative has since allowed passengers to modify, gift, or transfer their tickets without needing to contact customer service.

During a recent webinar, Flybondi’s CEO, Mauricio Sana, shared insights into the airline’s decision to support ticket resales. He likened the situation to other industries, like live music events, where reselling is commonplace. He illustrated this with an example where a customer purchases a ticket at a low rate, which later surges in market value, potentially leading to a profitable resale.

Sana explained that this approach benefits both the airline, which earns a fee from the resale, and the customer, who gains financially from the transaction. He emphasized the enhanced value of a once affordably sold seat through this resale process.
